The much waited digging project of Katakhali khal is progressing fast for the sewerage system in Sirajganj district from the first week of the month.
According to Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office source said, considering the development of Sirajganj municipality the authority concerned has allotted Tk 230 million in this fiscal year.
“We expect to finish the digging work of total 9.3 kilometers long canal before next monsoon” said mayor and LGED officials.
During the rainy season, the people of the both sides of the canal were stagnated for a long time.
Some nomad had lost their cottage whenever the pressure of water flowing in the canal. Many had shifted due to the miseries last few years back.
Executive engineer of municipality Shajahan Ali said we have started digging work according to the design.
The authority concerned has already taken effective measures to remove illegal infrastructure from the area so that no one can put hindrance on the digging work, he added.
