US President Donald Trump has announced to maintain pressure on North Korea until denuclearisation occurs.

The US president came up with the statement on Friday after the historic meeting between North and South Korean leaders.

Trump said he was encouraged by the expressed goal of North and South Korean leaders for complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

However, Trump made it clear that he will not repeat the mistakes of past administrations.

Donald Trump was addressing a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House in Washington on Friday.

Trump hoped his upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be productive, reports Reuters.

"I look forward to our meeting. It should be quite something,” Trump told the news conference.
