YOU make a phone call and a taxi driver picks you up from your location to drop you at your destination. This was something the people of Dhaka city saw only in western movies. The way the city is growing it was in need of such a service which was finally launched on November 22 last year. The American worldwide online transportation network company is now available in over 66 countries and 545 cities. It offers a free app that helps customers locate a nearby driver and hire him for a trip. Once the credit card information has been fulfilled, the customers get access to the service and receive the photographs and details of the drivers. The fares are also fixed (as per the distance) which is displayed by the app while the deal is done. Payments can be made in both cash and credit cards. The company does not own any car. It just helps the customers and drivers get connected. Any registered car owner with national identity card and a photograph is eligible to work under this service.
The car arrives within a very short time as promised earlier unless there is an unavoidable circumstance. The company offers a discount of Tk.250 for the first trip which has attracted more customers to try out this service. The fact that Uber offers service at a comparatively cheaper rate than that of the usual taxi cabs has made this service a fascinating one.
