Maintainenance of Ramna Park

ONCE known as the beautiful looking patch of green in Dhaka, Ramna Green has worn its present look due to years of negligence. It is in the heart of our city and not currently well maintained to say the least.
We see people coming to the park every day to enjoy some fresh air and jogging, but they get very little in return. Despite being the most beautiful spot in town, Ramna Green is yet to become a green spot worth its name, or as it used to be until late sixties of the last century.
I personally have pleasant memories of the park and I often feel nostalgic as I go through it. My father used to take us there during the weekend in early 80s. It was nice to see people of different ages, young and old, running and jogging out there. The number of visitors has increased many times over the years. There is a lot to be done now to beatify the park. Founded by Subeder Islam Khan in the sixteenth century, Ramna Park has become an integral part of our history and culture. Celebration of the Bangla New Year is a landmark. We must preserve the park at all costs. I hope the city corporation will do everything possible to ensure proper maintenance of the park and give us back the old green spot in Dhaka.
