POPULAR singer-composer Lucky Akhand is no more. He left this mortal world at the age of 61. He had been suffering from lung cancer for a long time. Although he left this world, he has occupied a permanent place in our hearts through his melodious songs. Lucky Akhand and his younger brother Happy Akhand were a famous duo of Bangla music in this part of the country in 1980s. After the sudden death of his younger brother, Lucky Akhand took a long hiatus in his musical career. For some inexplicable reasons he went into his shell and preferred to lie low. Then, after a decade, he hit the stage again in 1998 with two albums "Porichoy Kobe Hobe" and "Bitrishna Jibone Amar". He has been a regular in many live music sessions on television ever since.
Lucky's songs were well ahead of his time and were full of passion, melody, and majestic euphony which are rare ingredients of immortal music. He has been entertaining millions of music lovers of our time. In 1971, he joined Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and throughout the Liberation War he remained engaged in fighting for the liberation of Bangladesh against the Pakistan occupation forces and kept up the morale of freedom fighters with his patriotic songs.
Today's rock music in Bangladesh owes a great deal to Lucky. Some of his noteworthy songs are "Amay Dekona", "Ei  Neel Monihar", "Agey  Jodi  Jantam", "Hridoy Amar".
Akhand was a rage in the 1980s, when he doubled up as a singer, lyricist, composer and music director.
His first album 'Lucky Akhand' was released by record label Sargam in 1984.
I hope Lucky Akhand will live in our heart for ever with his music.
