Incidents of fire

Published :

Updated :

A few days ago we saw a massive fire that broke out all of a sudden in the Gulshan-1 DCC market and the shops located in the market were burnt to ashes incurring huge losses for the shop owners. The fire gutted almost 600 shops and it took 4 days for the fire fighters to extinguish the fire. However, before the recent fire incident took place, we saw another fire mishap at Banani although the extent of loss was much less. But the cause of concern was that people who were working there were petrified and they rushed for life. It was seen in the media that some male and female employees got panicky and were climbing down the stairs to save themselves from the fire that engulfed the entire building. The tendency is not only risky but could also lead to huge casualties. It indicates that people have no preparedness about things to be done if a fire accident takes place. It is really alarming to see that the fire fighters are not capable enough to fight fire as they are not properly equipped with adequate fire fighting equipment. To stop recurring incidents of fire such as the incident at Banani, the concerned authorities should adopt massive awareness programme for the people and educate them as to what to do in case of fire. Getting panicked may cause further casualties.
