Gender equality

YOUR article titled "Gender equality & human relation" (FE- March 10) clearly shows that women today are no longer satisfied being confined within four walls of a house and are actively pursuing a career and supporting not only themselves but also their families. We all work hard to enjoy a good life. Swami Vivekananda said, "The best thermometer to the progress of a nation is its treatment of its women." Women continue to have a long way to go to guarantee equality and fairness throughout the society. Only a country which respects women can survive better in the world arena.  Women have excelled in different fields and their stories are full of adventure, romance, defeat and triumph.
Our country is changing politically, economically and socially, at a fast speed. The condition of women is also gradually changing. They have begun to take their due place in free India as is evident from the stories of women warriors, their trials and tribulations. While most people think of males as the strong big chiefs of Indian tribes, the Indian women played and still play an essential and integral role in Indian life. Women were extremely important in the building and assembling of homes and lodging. A man and a woman are like two wheels of a cart. The cart can move fast and safely too, when both the wheels pull it in the same direction and with equal strength.
