Farming needs young and educated leaders

A child is usually asked a common question by people around, "what do you want to be in future?" Most children will reply - 'a doctor' or 'an engineer'. It is impossible that a child will answer that he/she wants to be a farmer because land in Bangladesh is very fertile and so agriculture will be a profitable business.   Bangladesh is full of natural resources and we can easily utilise part of these resources for a gainful purpose. These resources can help us become self-employed.
In our childhood we used to read in our text books that farming is the main profession of nearly 90 per cent our people. The young generation may find it difficult to accept. Farming does not necessarily mean that uneducated rural people are working hard in the fields all day long. Farming is also a scientific process and it calls for technical training to develop this sector. Educated young people can add value by developing the sector. If we can motivate our students to choose farming as a profession, we can provide employment for a large segment of young population of the country. In this way, we can fight increasing unemployment problem facing our educated youths. We have enough opportunities to be a successful entrepreneur in agriculture. Therefore, there is no point wasting our valuable time looking for office jobs. It is time to change our perception and attitude towards farming. A career in farming is eagerly waiting for young leaders of the country.
