The fisheries sector of the country has hardly received the attention it deserves since the independence of Bangladesh. This is why we now face acute shortage of fish. Common people have almost forgotten the habit of eating fish along with their regular meals.
In a period of only three decades, fish has changed from common man's food to rich man's luxury. We were all once known as fish and rice- eating Bangalees.
We still would like to be called like that and for that we need to develop a separate fisheries sub-sector because supply needs to be plenty and price affordable for the common people.
