Coaching business

THE Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are going on. A major portion of the successful students will pursue higher studies. As accommodation of students is very limited compared to the number of aspiring candidates, there is always a battle among the students for admission to public universities and public medical colleges.
The admission tests are designed in such a way that coaching is essential for the candidates as well as their guardians. The candidates who attend coaching centres and prepare themselves according to their advice usually get an opportunity of admission to public universities and medical colleges. Students who cannot afford the costs of coaching centres do not usually get admission to these institutions. Their knowledge in HSC or equivalent studies has little or no effect on admission tests. Questions for admission tests in public universities and medical colleges should be set in a manner avoiding coaching centre suggestions and taking questions from common board syllabuses as source. If the questions are selected in this way, more talented students will get the opportunity to study in public universities and in public medical colleges.  If this practice is followed, after some time students and their guardians will lose confidence in coaching centres which will be compelled to wind up and the guardians will be relieved of the burden of a huge sum of money for coaching centres.
