Australia has been asked to import more Bangladeshi products as it is very popular in the Australian market.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed made the call during a meeting with Australian Finance Minister Senator Mathias Cormann on Saturday.

Tofail said there is a huge demand for Bangladeshi readymade garments, medicines, ceramics and leather products in Australia.

So the country has been asked to consider importing more products from Bangladesh, says a BSS report citing an official release.

The Commerce Minister is now in Perth to attend the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference.

Tofail Ahmed also told Cormann that Australian entrepreneurs can invest in Bangladesh for mutual benefits of the two countries as Bangladesh is now an attractive place for investment.

He said Australian investors can invest in any of the 100 special economic zones in the country.

The government will ensure all facilities for the Australian investors to secure their investments, the commerce minister added.

During the meeting Tofail laid emphasis on introducing cargo air service between the two countries.

Senator Mathias Cormann assured Tofail Ahmed of taking steps for increasing trade between the two countries.

In the morning, the commerce minister attended the opening session of the conference.

Bangladesh High Commissioner (acting) to Australia Farida Yasmin was with the commerce minister.
