Three-day pharma expo kicks off in city on Mar 2

The three-day 14th Asia Pharma Expo-2023 will be held on March 02-04 in the city.

It will display latest pharmaceutical products, manufacturing and packaging machinery and laboratory supplies from local and international brands.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque will inaugurate the expo as chief guest.

Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) and GPE Expo Pvt. Ltd are jointly organising the international pharmaceutical exhibition on complete pharma manufacturing, technologies at the International Convention Centre, Bashundhara, in Dhaka.

More than 600 pharmaceutical companies from 30 countries, including the USA, China, the UK, Germany, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan and host Bangladesh, will participate in the expo.

The participants will exhibit a wide range of products and services related to pharmaceutical processing and packaging machinery, biotech lab equipment, API and bulk drugs plants and manufacturing, pharmaceutical formulation and contract manufacturing.

Bangladesh's pharmaceutical sector has achieved tremendous progress in the area of producing medicines after the liberation and the country is nearly self sufficient in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

After meeting 98 per cent of the domestic demand for medicines, the country is now exporting the surplus to more than 152 countries around the world including the regulated market of USA, Europe, Canada and Australia, according to BAPI.

Bangladesh has been considered as the largest producer of finished formulations amongst least developed countries (LDCs) and continued exploration of markets for the Bangladeshi pharma products confirmed its strong presence in the competitive global market.

Bangladesh initiated some positive steps such as 20 per cent cash incentive on exporting Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and 10 per cent cash incentive on export of finished formulations, a document mentioned.
