Net interest income of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) declined slightly in the past year to Tk 22.20 billion from Tk 22.80 billion in 2017.
Statistics available with Bangladesh Bank, unveiled on Financial Stability Report 2018 last month, showed that gross interest income of the FIs increased to Tk 79.80 billion in the past year from Tk 68.50 billion in the previous year.
At the same time, interest expense jumped to Tk 57.60 billion in 2018 from Tk 45.80 billion in 2017.
The big jump in interest expense caused a marginal drop in interest income.
Non-interest income also dropped to Tk 6.20 billion from Tk 6.60 billion during the period under review.
As a result, total operating income of the country’s financial institutions reached Tk 28.40 billion in the past year, which was Tk 29.30 billion in 2017.
