The leaders of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) have called upon its members for maintaining the quality of services ahead of Eid ul-Fitr celebration.

In a statement on Tuesday, e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser and General Secretary Muhammad Abdul Wahed Tomal urged its member organisations to deliver proper products on time in compliance with the health guidelines.

Conditions under which the Ministry of Commerce allows online sale and delivery of e-commerce products amid the COVID-19 crisis must be followed strictly, the leaders said.

The online merchants are requested to keep themselves and the customers safe maintaining the health guidelines.

They also urged the e-CAB member organisations not to accept additional orders. Each company should take orders for the products keeping their stock and delivery capacity in mind.

Online merchants must make sure that the Eid products should reach the customers’ house before Eid celebration. At the time of ordering the products, the buyers should be informed about the delivery time, they emphasised.

The return and refund policy should also be visible, transparent and customer-friendly in line with the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009, they pointed out.

Some 92 per cent business in the e-commerce sector were closed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

But with the permission of the Ministry of Commerce, e-CAB allows online companies to sell and deliver the products in stock on the occasion of Eid celebration.

However, about 85 per cent of the businesses still remain closed, both the leaders noted.

In addition, the ministry also allows online food delivery for Iftar and Seheri from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm from the city’s restaurants by keeping the kitchens of the restaurants open. The e-CAB is making its overall efforts in this regard, they added.
