The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), under the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning, launched a new project, said a press relase.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith launched the project titled 'Digitising Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPPP)' at a city hotel on Wednesday.

Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal chaired the launching programme, while World Bank Country Director Qimiao Fan and Director of Governance Global Practice of World Bank Vinay Sharma spoke as special guests.

The primary objective of the project is to improve the overall management of public procurement in the country.

With the support from World Bank, the CPTU will implement the project over a period of five years from July 2017 to June 2022.

The project will have four components:

  • Restructuring of CPTU and Institutionalising e-GP

  • Enhancing Digitisation of Public Procurement

  • Professionalization of Procurement and Citizen Engagement

  • Digitising Project Implementation Monitoring.

CPTU is implementing e-GP to enhance transparency, accountability and competition in public Procurement.

There are 1300 government procuring agencies in the country. A total of 1149 procuring agencies were connected to the e-GP system as of October 25.

The CPTU under the IMED of the Ministry of Planning will implement the DIMAPPP with an overall estimated cost of $60 million by June 2022.

Of the total project cost, the IDA, the concessionary arm of the World Bank, will provide $55 million while the rest of $5.0 million will come from the state exchequer.

Earlier, the Finance Minister formally launched the CPTU's new website, while an accord was signed between LGED and CPTU.
