Maroof Matin's expiry an irreparable loss for financial sector

Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB) and Capital Market Journalists’ Forum (CMJF) expressed their heartfelt sorrow by hosting a virtual ceremony commemorating Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin. He was the Founding Director of VCPEAB, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Maslin Capital and Former Managing Director of Chittagong Stock Exchange. In the event, everyone mourned his untimely demise and lauded his contributions towards policy advocacy related to venture capital, startups and the capital market.

 

The commemoration was joined by Prof. Shibli Rubayatul Islam, Chairman, BSEC; Mr. Shameem Ahsan, President, VCPEAB; Ms. Nazma Akter, wife of Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin; Ziaul Haque Khandakar, Former Chairman, BSEC;  Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, MD & CEO, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd.; Mr. Arif Khan, Managing Director & CEO, IDLC; Tina Zabeen, Managing Director, Startup Bangladesh Ltd;  Abdul Hafiz, Chairman & Acting Managing Director, Maslin Capital Limited; Kh. Asadul Khan Ripon, Managing Director, Alliance Capital and Asset Management Ltd.; Mr. Raihan Shamsi, Chairman & CEO, Devo Tech; Mr. Shafiq-Ul Azam, Managing Director, BD Venture Ltd and Mr.  Minhazur Rahman, Chief Investment Officer, Maslin Capital limited, Mr. Hasan Imam Rubel, President, CMJF; Mr. Munir Hossain, General Secretary, CMJF and Sujoy Mohajon, Business Editor, Prothom Alo. 
Shawkat Hossain, General Secretary VCPEAB, moderated the programme.

 
Mr. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Chairman, BSEC said, “Mr. Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin had strong dedication and enthusiasm towards innovation, and continuously generated new ideas. Every idea he had was futuristic and revolutionary. This is an irreparable loss for all of us.’  

 

Mr. Shameem Ahsan, President, VCPEAB said, “Mr. Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin had a profound effect on shaping the venture capital, startup and capital market community. He was an industry stalwart and always provided critical insights to encourage our nation’s ultimate quest to create a robust venture capital and startup ecosystem. Our venture capital and startup community has lost a true friend, advisor and guide, and we will have to bear this void for eternity.”

 

Mr. Ziaul Haque Khandakar, Former Chairman, BSEC said, “Mr. Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin was always full of productive ideas and was a creative genius. Now, we have lost our opportunity to be introduced to any more innovative ideas of his. This is a great loss for us.”

 

Mr. Abdul Hafiz, Chairman and Acting Managing Director, Maslin Capital said, “Mr. Wali-Ul-Maroof Matin’s untimely demise have left us all in a state of shock. He had an immense influence on the establishment and acceleration of the venture capital and start-up ecosystem. Maroof had a creative mind and used to think ahead of time. Our VC and startup community lost a visionary whose absence can never be filled.”


Mr. Shawkat Hossain, General Secretary, VCPEAB, said “Mr. Maroof Matin was an icon in the arena of capital market. He was a brilliant and adventurous person. He worked in stock exchange, mutual fund and venture capital. He preferred venture capital as it is new and exciting.”
