Cattle markets in Khulna city and nine upazilas of the district are humming with customers on Friday, the day before Eid-ul-Azha.
People from both the industrial city and adjacent areas are rushing to cattle markets to purchase their sacrificial animals as only a few hours left for the Eid.
Cattle traders from Jessore, Narail, and other districts have joined the markets with their finest sacrificial animals expecting better profit.
According to the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), about 0.2 million (two lakhs) sacrificial animals have already been stocked in the cattle markets whereas this year’s demand is 0.15 million (one and half lakh). As a result, price of the cattle is comparatively cheap.
After visiting Kharnia cattle market under Dumuria upazila in the district and Zoragate cattle market in the city in the morning, this correspondent found that the prices of sacrificial animals starts from Tk 50,000 to 4,000,00.
Customers also expressed their satisfaction over the quality and price while purchasing their sacrificial animals.
Market operators said besides the local buyers, the wholesale cattle traders continued to send livestock at the markets in the city and nine upazilas of the district from different parts of the country.
