An American soldier has succumbed to wounds sustained during a vehicle accident in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province, says the US military.

A statement released by the US forces on Tuesday says that two other American service members were injured in the incident, which took place on Monday.

According to the statement, the US forces were not in contact with enemy forces at the time.

The two injured soldiers are undergoing treatment, reports the Associated Press.

US Gen. John Nicholson, commander of the US troops in Afghanistan, expressed his deepest sympathies and prayers to the families and friends of the fallen and injured service members.

The military did not identify the dead service member and provided no further information.
