Learning about your footwear

A book titled 'Foot Last Footwear: Structure, Types and Defects', authored by Noor Mohammad is an enduring effort of the writer and the publishers (LFMEAB and COEL) to support the labour-intensive footwear industry in Bangladesh. The book is in Bengali aiming to serve not only the industry people but also the teeming millions on pedicure and footwear.
The writer has highlighted many unknown but very important issues regarding proper shape and manufacturing of footwear, which indeed is very helpful for the industry people.
Since Bangladesh is a growing market for footwear industry, it is, therefore, a compelling book with a compendious description on pedicure, formation, structure, measurement, classification, defects and preservation of last, size & fitting of shoes, mathematical accounts of different scales, conversion of scales, characteristics of comfortable shoes, shoe anatomy, classification of shoes, shoe fitting devices, common defects of shoes and care of footwear.
The author has enriched the book through studying numerous international publications and books on the subject published from the USA, UK and China and he affixed the bibliographical chart in the 256-page book which depicts the nitty-gritty of the footwear sector of Bangladesh.
Usage of numerous pictorial images has made the book compelling and someone may make a funny comment that after reading the book, the readers will stop to visit the dermatologists since the book depicts the problems and remedies on foot-related skin diseases so vividly.
Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), Centre of Excellence for Leather Skill Bangladesh Limited (COEL) and 'Bangladesh Inspired' should be appreciated for the support to publish such a need-based book.
'Bangladesh Inspired' is a SME development vehicle, managed by the SME Cell of the Ministry of Industries with support from the SME Foundation, Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh Bank Training Academy (BBTA) and Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and Technical Assistance provided by the EU.
