Registration of motorised vehicles in the country has witnessed a steep rise since the fiscal year 2015-16 (FY16), thanks to the growing economy.
A total of 381,181 motorised vehicles were registered in FY16 – an increase of 53.4 per cent in the registration of such means of transport from the previous fiscal (FY15), according to the statistics provided by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
The data showed that a total of 412,573 vehicles were registered in FY17 and 468,706 in FY18.
An estimated 175,000 vehicles were registered in 1987, the transport regulator added.
