A four-day expo on garments and textile machineries and other accessories began onThursday in the city`s International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB).

More than a hundred local and foreign firms are participating in the fair to showcase their latest products and services for the country`s readymade garments (RMG) and textile industries.

Inaugurating the expo, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that the government has been extending its full support to grow the country`s business prospects. As a result, the contribution of the industries sector, especially textiles and garments, has witnessed substantial growth in the last few years.

Turning to politics, he criticised the opposition BNP centring its demand for deferring the general election, noting that the Election Commission has already deferred the polls for a week responding to their demand, reports UNB.

"But again they are making the same demand. But we are not in agreement with such demand. The Election Commission will take the final decision in this regard," he said.

REDCarpet 365, an event management firm, organised the fair titled: Bangladesh International Garment and Expo 2018 where local and foreign firms displayed their garment and textile machineries.

The event was also addressed by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) senior vice president Faruk Hasan and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association senior vice president Monsur Ahmed.

Tofail Ahmed said the Awami League government has been pursuing business-friendly policies to facilitate trade and industries across the country.

Faruk Hasan said Bangladesh has become the second largest exporter of RMG in the global market for the government`s supportive role. "We want this policy support to continue in future for the sake of the country`s RMG sector," he added.
