The government has selected 56 businesses as commercially important persons (CIPs) for the year 2016, officials said.
The industries ministry announced the names in a gazette notification issued last week for their contributions to industrialisation, employment generation and boosting national incomes.
They have been selected under five categories including the names of eight industrialists as ex-officio.
The CIPs nominated as ex-officio are Abdul Matlub Ahmad from Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, AK Azad from Bangladesh Chamber of Industries, Md Siddiqur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, AKM Salim Osman, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Rupali Haque Chowdhury from Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Selima Ahmad, president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tapan Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, and Mirza Nurul Gani Shovon, president of National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh.
CIPs chosen from large industries (manufacturing) are: Ali Hossain Akbar Ali, chairman of BSRM Steels Ltd, Md Nasir Uddin, managing director of Universal Jeans Limited, Parvez Rahman, managing director of BRB Cable Industries Ltd, Arif Dowla, managing director of ACI, Aameir Ali Hossain, managing director of Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills Ltd, Abdus Samad Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Noman, managing director of Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Ltd, Tanvir Ahmed, director of Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd, Abdul Monem, managing director of Abdul Monem Limited, Abu Noman Hawlader, managing director of Bangladesh Building System Ltd, and Mirza Salman Ispahani, managing director of Pahartali Textile and Hosiery Mills.
Mamun Bhuiyan, chairman of Fariha Knit Tex Ltd, M Shamsur Rahman, managing director of MRS Industries Ltd, KM Rezaul Hasnat, managing director of M/S Viyellatex Ltd, Abdul Hai Sarker, chairman of Shohaghpur Textile Mills Ltd, Syed Mohammed Tanvir, director of Pacific Jeans, Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Food and Beverage Ltd, Mostafizur Rahman, managing director of Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Kutubuddin Ahmed, managing director of Envoy Textiles Ltd, Badsha Mia, managing director of Badsha Textile Mills Ltd, and Sayem Sobhan, director of Meghna Cement Mills Ltd, Khandaker Monir Uddin, managing director of STS Holdings Ltd, Sajedul Islam, vice chairman of Navana Real Estate Ltd, SM Kamal Uddin, chairman of Concord Real Estate and Development Ltd, Chowdhury Hassan Mahmud, managing director of GME Agro Ltd, and Taufiq M Seraj, managing director of Sheltech Limited, have been selected as CIPs under the category of large industries (service).
CIPs selected under medium-sized industry are Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, director of RFL Plastics Ltd, Enamul Hassan Khan, chairman of Promi Agro Foods, Abdus Sobhan, managing director of Oeko-Tex Ltd, Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, managing director of Madhabdi Dyeing Finishing Mills Ltd, Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, managing director of Fu-Wang Foods Ltd, Ramjul Seraj, managing director of Aqua Mineral Turpentine and Solvents Plants Ltd, Mahidul Islam Khan, managing director of Citadel Apparels Ltd, Abdul Jabbar Mollah, managing director of Jalalabad Frozen Foods Ltd, ZM Golam Nabi, managing director of Bosumoti Distribution Ltd, ASM Moinuddin Monem, managing director of Igloo Foods Ltd, Mojibur Rahman, managing director of BRB Polymer Ltd, Mosharraf Hossain, managing director of Mosharraf Spinning Mills, Khan M Aftab Uddin, chairman of Spectra Engineers Ltd, Jesmin Sultana, director of Shanto Properties Ltd, and Tanvirul Haque Probal, managing director of Building for Future Ltd.
CIPs chosen under small-sized industries are Mizber Rahman, managing director of Kiam Metal Industries Ltd, Farhana Monem, chairman of Fuji Ink Industries Ltd, Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin, chairman of RMM Leather Industries Ltd, Mozammel Hossain, vice chairman of Runner Bricks Ltd, Md Abu Shahriar, deputy managing director of Sabjiana Ltd, and Nurul Qayyum Khan, chairman of QNS Container Services Ltd.
Joshoda Jibon Debnath, managing director of Technomedia Ltd, and Sanaul Haque Babul, owner of AB Fashion Maker, have been selected under the category of micro-industry and cottage industry respectively.
They will be given CIP cards for a year and they would enjoy some facilities, according to the gazette notification.
They could use the cards as passes to enter the Bangladesh Secretariat and would also get letter of introduction from the foreign ministry for getting visa.
Other facilities included priority in seat reservation at government transports in air, road, rail and waterways and getting invitation to national events.
