BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who has been staying at home following her release on parole last year, has tested coronavirus-positive.

Leaders of the opposition party declined to make any comment on the matter but the health ministry spokesperson Maidul Islam confirmed this.

There have been rumours in the city since Sunday morning that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been infected with novel coronavirus.

A source in the party said Khaleda Zia’s sample was tested on Saturday after a relative who visited her tested positive a few days back.

The three-time prime minister, who is now 76, was convicted in a graft case in 2018. Khaleda Zia is said to have been suffering from some other diseases.
