Water tank explosion at Pallabi building injures 11

A water tank explosion at a building at Pallabi in the capital on Tuesday night left at least 11 people, including eight of two families, injured.

Conditions of some of the injured were stated to be critical.

The explosion is believed to be caused by a leak in gas line at the building during cleaning on the eve of the Holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Police, firefighters, local people and hospital sources said, the blast took place on the ground floor of a three-storey building at
Section 12, Block -E, Line-4 and house no-24 near Morapara Bihari Camp around 10:25pm on Tuesday.

Station said on Wednesday the house owner and his son, six of a family and two pedestrian were among the injured.

The injured were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, the police officer, rescuers and locals said.

Hospital sources said conditions of some of them were critical.

Nine of the injured were identified as house owner Mosharraf Hossain, 45, his son Jisan, tenant Awal Hossain Babu, tenant Surat Ali,60, his wife Bedana Begum (40), their daughter Aleya, 25, daughter of Aleya, Mili, (four and a half years), Surat’s son Rabbi, 20, and his wife Laboni, 18.

MO Ershad, a Fire Service official, said they suspect gas from a leaked pipe beneath the tank caused the explosion.
