UNGA chief Miroslav seeks Dhaka’s suggestion in resolving the ongoing crisis

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Miroslav Lajcak said Rohingya issue has appeared as a top priority concern for the organisation.

He also stated that Dhaka's suggestions as a key stakeholder would be of crucial help in resolving the crisis.

"Right at this moment the ongoing situation in Myanmar is a priority issue and matter of concern for the UN and the international community," reports BSS quoting an official statement received at the foreign ministry on Thursday.

Lajcak statement also added that being a key stakeholder of the issue Bangladesh's direct experience, opinions and suggestions would be of great help in resolving the crisis.

The UNGA president's comments came as chairman of Bangladesh's parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs Dr Dipu Moni called on him in New York on Wednesday.

Moni said Bangladesh would continue diplomatic relations with Myanmar "but Naypyidaw's "actions must match with its promises".

"They must ensure the return of their displaced nationals to live in their own home with dignity, security and peace with all civic rights," she said.

Moni also assured Miroslav of having Bangladesh’s full support to the programmes and visions taken under Miroslav's leadership by the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
