Two minor cousins drowned in a pond at Mollapara village in Shyamnagar upazila under Satkhira district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Marium Akhter Sumaiya, 5, daughter of Nazrul Sana and Shahnaz Akhter Mishti, daughter of Nuruzzaman Sana of the village in Atulia union.
Syed Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said that Sumaiya and Mishti slipped into the pond adjacent to their houses while they were playing nearby the pond around 10:00am, according to UNB.
Later, locals recovered the body from the pond after a frantic search.
