'Three million saplings in memory of 3 million martyrs'

A total of 3 million saplings will be planted to pay tributes to 3 million martyrs of the country's Liberation War on the occasion of National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair this year.

Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud revealed the information at a press briefing in the ministry's conference room on Sunday.

The minister said International Environment Day and Environment fair will also be inaugurated on the same day, reports UNB.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programmes at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Wednesday.

Educational Institutions will take part in the programme across the country.

The minister urged the countrymen to take part in the programme to show respect towards the martyrs.

Anisul Islam also urged everyone to be aware to protect the planet from climate changes.

The government has taken some initiatives to create awareness among people on the occasion of Environment Day and Tree Plantation Campaign.

This year, United Nations (UN) Environment has come up with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" with the slogan- If you can't reuse it, refuse it.

On the other hand, this year's theme for the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair is "Live in Green, Protect the Green and Decorate the City-life-Environment".
