Suspected drug pedlar dies in Joypurhat ‘shootout’ with RAB

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Keshabpur in Joypurhat in the early hours of Wednesday.

The dead man was identified as Sohel Rana, 42, son of Solaiman Sardar of Uttar Gopalpur village in the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Panchbibi upazila at around 2:30am, said Camp Commander of RAB-5 Azmal Hossain, also assistant superintendent of police.

A shootout soon took place after some criminals came in contact with the elite force.

Sohel, who was wanted in 8-10 cases, was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Two RAB men sustained injuries in the skirmish, reports UNB.

A pistol, bullets, a magazine, three SIM cards, two mobile phone sets and 60 bottles of phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot.
