Six arrested in Dhaka for manufacturing counterfeit Ayurvedic medicines

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six people for manufacturing and selling counterfeit Ayurvedic medicines in Dhaka.

The arrestees have been identified as Md Wazed Islam Shanto, 20, and his associate Md Russell, 29, Md Hriday, 29, Md Mursalin Ahmed, 18, Md Sabuj Mia 18 and Nantu, 52.

A team of RAB-2 conducted raids at an illegal factory located in the Narinda area of the capital and various outlets in Kamrangirchar, Kataban, Nazira Bazar, Gulistan and Old Dhaka and arrested them, the elite force said in a briefing Wednesday, reports UNB.

"They were manufacturing fake medicines in the factory and selling it through different outlets at various places," RAB said.

During the drives, the elite force also seized a huge quantity of raw materials used to make counterfeit drugs from their possession.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they had been in this business for the past 2-3 years. "Legal action will be taken against the accused."
