Shifting of chemicals from Haji Wahed Mansion at Churihatta in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar has started for the second straight day.

Owners of the warehouses started it at around 10:30 am on Sunday. Police and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) are helping them.

The chemicals will be moved to Keraniganj, according to DSCC executive magistrate Masud Rana.

DSCC executive officeer Udayan Dewan is leading the whole chemical shifting process.

At least 67 people died and many others sustained injuries in a devastating fire in the vicinity of Chawkbazar on Wednesday night.

Chemicals reportedly fuelled the fire making it so devastating, intensifying calls from locals and campaigners for relocating those flammable things from the old part of the city.

The chemical-fuelled Chawkbazar fire is the second largest tragedy in Old Dhaka, while the largest one took place at Nimtali in the same part of the capital claiming more than 100 lives in June 2010.
