Road crashes claim six lives in Dhaka, Chattogram

At least six people were killed and another injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka and Chattogram from Monday night to Tuesday morning.

In Dhaka, four people—three brick kilns workers and a truck driver—were killed as a truck plunged into in a roadside ditch in Ashulia Boro Bridge area in Savar upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as brickfield workers Arif Miah, Shahin, guard Abdul Kader, 50, and truck driver Mujahid.

Police said the brick-laden truck plunged into a 40-feet deep ditch near Bypail-Abdullahpur highway around 5:30 am when its driver lost control over the wheel, leaving the four people missing.

Later, divers from Fire Service and Civil Defence station in Uttara recovered four bodies from the water body. Meanwhile, one managed to swim ashore and he was later admitted to a hospital.

In Chattogram, two people were killed as a truck rammed a motorcycle they were riding on in Chandnaish upazila headquarters on Monday night, according to UNB reports.

The deceased were identified as the Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Hamid Hasan Miskat, 22, of Lohagara upazila, and his friend Md Riku of Patia upazila, a student of Mohsin College.

The accident took place at around 11:00 pm when the truck hit the motorcycle, leaving Riku dead on the spot and Miskat critically injured.

The injured was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and hours later he succumbed to his injuries there at around 2:30 am, said the CMCH outpost police.
