Students demanding safer roads have blocked DIT road at Rampura Bridge in the capital since Tuesday morning.
As a result of the protest, vehicular movement on the key road remained almost shut, causing a huge tailback of transport from both sides of the road.
The tailback caused immense suffering to the city dwellers, especially the officegoers.
Students of various educational institutions like Dhaka Imperial College, BAF Shaheen College, Cambrian College and Ikrammunnesa School and College joined the protest this morning that was intensified further after last night's road accident that killed a student of Ikrammunnesa School and College near Better Life Hospital in Rampura.
Talking to the FE, Tahshin Huda, a second-year HSC student of Dhaka Imperial College said they kept witnessing the sad demise of students one after another because of reckless driving and unruly behaviour of the transport workers.
"We saw the unfortunate death of Nayeem a few days ago; yesterday our brother Moinuddin fell victim to another road accident. We don't want to see any other life be lost in rod crashes," he said.
Adnan Mohammad Raid of the same college said he come to join the protest to force the authorities enforce road safety guidelines.
"We want justice. Who knows I can be the next victim. We cannot let it go unprotested. We will not go home unless the government meet our legitimate demands," he added.
Students were also seen taking control of the traffic rules in Rampura with the checking of driving licenses and other necessary documents.
