Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday alleged that the party's polling agents in at least 221 constituencies were either thrown out of polling stations or barred from entering there.

The party's joint-general secretary Moazzem Hosaain Alal made the allegation at the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat in Dhaka city's Agargaon.

"It is not possible to hold a free, fair and credible election under a political government which is now proved," he said.

When asked about whether BNP will stay in the election or not, Mr Alal said, "We are still in the election, the party will decide about what to do later."

The BNP submitted a letter to the EC detailing the complaints signed by the party's standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

Earlier in the day, BNP candidates for Dhaka-02 Irfan Ibne Aman and Abdul Mannan for Dhaka-10 on Sunday filed separate complaints with the EC, alleging that most of their polling agents were thrown out of respective polling centres.

Mr Aman said, "There are 181 polling stations in my constituency where ruling party goons with the support from police kicked out all of our polling agents."

However, he couldn't give the exact number of polling agents BNP has appointed in Dhaka-02 constituency.

Mr Mannan, 'Sheaf of Paddy' candidate for Dhaka-10 constituency, also made the same allegation.
