Narcotic dept officials ‘try’ to frame trader with Yaba

Officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Barguna allegedly tried to frame a local trader with Yaba pills in Madrasa road area of the district town on Friday.

However, amid strong protests from different sectors, the trader has been freed and a case filed against him withdrawn, reports UNB.

Locals said DNC officials claimed that they arrested trader Md Idris Ahsan Bachchu along with 46 Yaba pills from his business establishment around 2:30pm.

He was handed over to police after a case was filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act.

Meanwhile, the incident sparked angry protest among local traders, politicians, professionals and civil society.

They threatened to wage a strong movement, including keeping businesses shut for an indefinite period, unless Idris was not released.

Amid the protest, DNC Inspector Farhad Akon withdrew the case around 12am on Saturday and Idris was released subsequently.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abir Mahmud Hossain said Bachchu was sued on Friday night and few hours later, the case was withdrawn.
