Nagarkanda mayor injured, wife, son and party colleague killed in road accident

Newly elected mayor of Faridpur's Nagarkanda municipality Nimai Chandra Sarkar received critical injuries while his wife, son and a party colleague died in a road accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway on Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred at the Kaler crossing of the highway around 9:30pm, as a bus hit the microbus they were travelling in, said Officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station Omar Farooq.
The mayor was rushed to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital with critical injuries, while his wife, son and the party colleague died on the spot, he said.
As his condition worsened, he was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka in the early hours, said Ratan Kumar Saha, head of the surgery department at Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Operations) Mohammad Shahidul Islam also said the mayor was airlifted to the CMH from the Faridpur hospital in a special air ambulance at 1:10 pm.
