JS body recommends joint efforts for safe Eid journeys

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry on Sunday suggested joint efforts of government organisations to ensure safe journeys of holidaymakers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The parliamentary watchdog came up with the recommendations at its 56th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Major Rafiqul Islam (retd) Bir Uttam in the chair.

It recommended coordinated efforts of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) to take necessary steps for the safe journeys of holidaymakers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, reports UNB.

Regarding Mongla port, the JS body recommended the deployment of the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to beef up security for carrying out port activities safely.

The meeting was informed that the work on upgrading the Dhaka-Mawa highway to a four-lane one up to Gopalganj was underway to develop connectivity between the Padma Bridge and Mongla Port.

Committee members, Shipping Minister ShahjahanKhan, Md Abdul Hye, M Abdul Latif, Ranajit Kumar Roy, Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) and Momotaj Begum attended the meeting.
