Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

"The Indian Prime Minister phoned his counterpart Sheikh Hasina at about 10:30am and congratulated her, the Awami League, and the people of Bangladesh after her party's win with absolute majority in the national election," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said on Monday.

"The victory of the Awami League in the polls is the reflection of stunning development that Bangladesh attained under your dynamic leadership," Modi was quoted by Ihsanul as saying.

The Press Secretary mentioned that the Indian Prime Minister assured that his country will continue to support Bangladesh's development efforts like the past, according to a UNB report.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also thanked the Indian Prime Minister for making the phone call and said he is the first head of state or government who congratulated her after Awami League's landslide victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections.
