Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Thursday asked the members of his force, who are going to join United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti, to discharge their duties with professionalism and devotion.
IGP Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwari gave the directive during a pre-deployment briefing to the Haiti-bound peacekeepers in the conference room of Police Headquarters on Thursday, said assistant inspector general (media) Soheli Ferdous at Police Headquarters.
Dr Patwari said the police members must be very devoted in performing their responsibility to keep the dignity and prestige of Bangladesh in the global context, reports UNB.
"You have to continue your efforts to brighten the image of the country. The country's dignity cannot be damaged in any way," said the IGP.
The top official of Bangladesh Police said that discipline and ethics should be given most importance while performing duties in peacekeeping missions and in no circumstances discipline can be broken.
"According to the UN mandate, you (peacekeepers) have to give the importance of social values, life and culture of the people as well as to show them respect under the mission area," he added.
The IGP instructed the police members to carry out their duties by maintaining mutual friendship, brotherhood and sympathy.
Additional IGP M Mohsin Hossain, DIG Barrister Md. Harun Or Rashid and the concerned officials spoke on the occasion.
One hundred and forty members of the Bangladesh Police will join the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti led by its commander Additional SP of Tangail Police Training Centre Mohammad Abdul Mahbud.
