State Minister for Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Nasrul Hamid on Tuesday said the government will pay more attention to developing the country's energy sector in the coming years.

The government had concentrated its efforts more on developing the power sector in the previous years, he said.

Mr Hamid was talking to the officials, who gathered to greet him at Bidyut Bhaban in the city on his re-appointment as the state minister of MPEMR.

He opined that greater access to electricity will help develop the country's rural areas.

The government will work to ensure democracy and rule of law (in the country), develop skilled manpower, and provide employment to the youths, he further said.

Mr Hamid also laid emphasis on prompt decision making by the government officials to accelerate the pace of development.

The officials should not hesitate in decision-making, he said.

As Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina holds the portfolio of MPEMR, Nasrul Hamid described it as a rare opportunity for him to work under her direct supervision.

He said he will devise future plans for his ministry in the next three months, and then will go for implementing the same in the next four and a half years.

"Our main target will be the year 2021, and all plans will be made keeping that target in mind."

He also warned all against corruption.
