The government plans to set up offices of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) at divisional level to widen its coverage.

Planning Minister MA Mannan gave the information on Sunday while addressing a workshop at the NEC Conference Room on Project Management Information System (PMIS) in participation with the designated focus person officials from various Ministries and Divisions working on PMIS, reports BSS.

“Our Prime Minister has signaled on various occasions that the IMED would be further strengthened. We’ll set up divisional level IMED offices very shortly. As long as I remain here at the planning ministry, I will try to extend the IMED offices at the district level,” he said.

The workshop was chaired by Secretary in Charge of the IMED Abul Mansur Md Faizullah.

Mannan urged the officials concerned with the project implementation to follow timeliness and austerity.

He also directed them not to waste public fund adding, “You must be very careful about public money, especially in case of development projects.”

The planning minister said that the message of the government at present is ensuring development as well as to give better life to the common people.

He informed that a big amount of the national budget is allocated every year on the Annual Development Programme (ADP) to give better lives to the citizens of the country.

Referring to his recent meetings with the project directors in Khulna, Sylhet and Rangpur, Mannan said that he would soon visit the rest of the divisions and sit with the concerned project directors and officials of the executing agencies in a bid to yield better development outcomes.

The Planning Minister said that the IMED would make close monitoring and evaluation over the works of the project directors. “It will help to work as a team … we have a common interest to attain,” he added.
