The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered authorities concerned to formulate a full-fledged guideline by an independent commission on the private practices of state appointed doctors.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice F.R.M. Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K. M. Kamrul Kader passed the order and also issued a rule in this regard.

The court in the rule asked authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not declare the clause 4 of The Medical Practice and Private Clinic and Laboratory Ordinance unconstitutional, illegal and why it shall not be annulled.

The High Court came up with the order after holding hearing on a writ filed by five lawyers, Abdus Sattar Palwan, Salauddin Regan, Sujat Miah, Md Aminul Haque, and Md Kawser Uddin Mandal, challenging government’s ‘inaction’ in stopping doctors’ private practice.

Health secretary, director general of Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council president and Bangladesh Medical Association president were made respondents in the writ, reports BSS.
