Fine for traffic rule violations witnesses slight increase in FY18

Fine for traffic rule violations across the country witnessed a slight increase in the fiscal year 2017-18 (FY18) compared to that in the previous fiscal (FY17).

The mobile courts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) fined nearly Tk 49 million against errant vehicles and drivers for violating traffic rules in FY18.

The courts fined Tk 47.2 million in FY17, according to the data of the transport regulator.

Moreover, the courts filed 24,913 cases during the drives against traffic rule violators in FY18, the BRTA data showed.

According to the data, the mobile courts also handed down different jail terms to 412 traffic rule violators and dumped 214 vehicles during the drives in the same fiscal.

A total of 37,242 cases were lodged, 866 people were given different jail terms and 843 vehicles were dumped in FY17.
