Civil aviation ministry forms probe body over ’plane hijacking’

A five-member investigation committee has been formed over a plane hijacking attempt in the port city of Chattogram.

The Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry formed the committee, with additional secretary Md Mokabbir Hossain in the lead, according to a ministerial press release received on Monday.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days, the statement added.

The other members of the committee are: joint secretary Zanendra Nath Sarker, director (Flight Safety & Regulations) of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, wing commander Chpwdhury  M Zia

Ul Kabir, director (planning) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines  air commodore (rtd) Mahbub Jahan Khan, and senior security consultant of CAAB group captain (rtd) MdAlamgir.

The probe body was reportedly formed under under direct orders from state minister for civil aviation and tourism Md Mahbub Ali.

The port city’s Shah Amanat International Aiport had to be shut for hours due to the hijacking bid on Sunday evening, when the lone suspect died in an army commando operation.
