Most households in Dhaka city suffer from an acute gas supply shortage due to a technical fault at an LNG terminal recently, according to stakeholders.
Seeking anonymity, officials at Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company say the city-dwellers have been facing supply crunch since January 12.
The technical fault, which occurred on January 07, will hopefully be over from January 22, they add.
The officials have thus pleaded with the consumers to be patient and wait until the glitch is fixed at the facility.
Many residents of Dhaka also complain that they are forced to manage their daily cooking with alternative arrangements.
Some residents are forced to buy their daily meals from nearby restaurants.
City-dwellers from Mirpur, Shyamoli, Adabor, Mirpur, Badda, Science Laboratory, Segunbagicha, Jatrabari, Sutrapur, Gendaria, Farmgate, Dhanmondi and Lalbagh, among others, are facing gas crisis, according to consumers and company officials.
Mirza Mahbub Hossain, manager (public relations) at the company, says daily gas supply now remains between 1.7 and 1.8 billion cubic feet against a demand for 2.2 billion cubic feet.

Nargis Sultana, a Mohammadpur resident, laments the fact that she cannot prepare food in the morning for poor gas pressure.
Gas supply only becomes normal around 12:30pm.
Mahbuba Akter, a resident from Mirpur, told the FE that she had been using an induction oven to cook food for a few days following this nagging gas crisis.
Swapna, a Badda resident who only goes by one name, says her burners remain dry out in the last one week after 8:00 am to 9:00 am daily.
She receives poor supply after 3:00 pm every day, saying that she tries to start cooking before 8:00 am.
