Child labourers to get training, job-oriented education

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian on Tuesday said the government will provide child labourers training and job-oriented education to withdraw them from risky jobs.

“The government is working to stop risky job for children by 2021 and all kinds of child labour by 2025 to achieve the target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG),” she said these while addressing the seventh meeting of National Child Labour Welfare Council in the capital.

“The government has started the work of forth phase of a project to eliminate risky child labour at a cost of Tk 2.8449 billion (Tk 284.49 crore). Under this project, children engaged in risky jobs will be identified and they will be provided with training and job-oriented education. They will also get financial help to ensure self employment after the training,” the state minister added.

Begum Monnujan further said the government has formed different committees from the national level to upazila level and the committees will be further strengthened and active, reports BSS.

Labour and Employment secretary Afroza Khan, Additional Secretary Syed Ahammed, Jatiya Shramik League President Shukkur Mahmud and Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan were present, among others, on the occasion.
