The people who were responsible for the Chawkbazar fire will be brought to justice under the purview of law, the deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Zone) has said.

Investigations are going on. Whoever – including those two named in the case filed over the incident – is found to be responsible will not be spared, Mohammad Ibrahim Khan told reporters while visiting Chawkbazar area on Sunday.

He said the ongoing drive to remove chemicals from Old Dhaka will continue. Law enforcers and Dhaka South City Corporation will be helping in it.

Meanwhile, an additional secretary of the safety and services department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pradip Ranjan Chakrabarty visited the scene of a devastating fire that broke out on Wednesday night claiming at least 67 lives and injured many others.

He said it was the last day of their investigation. They had collected all necessary information from primary and secondary sources that include witnesses.

Now all video footages collected from different media outlets are being scrutinised, Chakrabarty said, adding that once it is done, a final report will be made, Chakrabarty said.

The chemical-fuelled Chawkbazar fire is the second largest tragedy in Old Dhaka, while the largest one took place at Nimtali in the same part of the capital claiming more than 100 lives in June 2010.
