BRTA fines Tk 3.23m in Feb for violating traffic rules

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed a total of 1,701 cases and realised over Tk 3.23 million in fines in February 2021 for violating traffic rules.

The transport authority conducted 213 mobile court drives in February 2021, while it carried out 235 drives the month before, according to a monthly report of the transport regulator.

The report also shows that the number of mobile court drives in December 2020 was 206, which stood at 235 in November.

A total of eight vehicles were dumped and 25 people were jailed for violating traffic rules in February this year, while 11 vehicles were dumped and 28 people were imprisoned in January this year, adds the report.

As many as 29 vehicles were dumped and 22 people were jailed for violating traffic rules in December, adds the report, while 12 vehicles were dumped and nine people were jailed in November 2020.

The BRTA conducts mobile court drives regularly across the country with a view to bringing discipline and order on the roads.

It lodged the cases as per the new Road Transport Act 2018 and other laws.

BRTA filed a total of 2,108 cases and realised over Tk 2.96 million in fines in January 2021.
