Bangladesh logs 1,285 virus cases, 45 deaths in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 45 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 11,878.

The caseload rose by 1,285, the lowest daily count since Mar 14, to 772,127, according to the latest government data released on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.

Another 2,492 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 706,833.

As many as 14,703 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 8.74 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 91.54 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.54 per cent.

Globally, over 156.92 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.27 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
