Bangladesh, India to start cruise services for tourists in March

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said cruise services for tourists between Bangladesh and India would begin in March.

The minister gave the information after a meeting with acting Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Adarsh Swaika at the secretariat on Sunday, reports BSS.

Tipu also requested the high commissioner to ease the visa procedures for the Bangladeshi people.

Describing India as longstanding friend, the commerce minister said both the countries have agreed to work together which would help to boost bilateral trade further.

Dhaka has made proposal to Delhi to construct a land port at Chilahati frontier in Dinajpur, he said.

“The government has taken initiatives for setting up six more border haats alongside the existing haats,” the minister added.

Both the countries have a trade of $9,492 million and in last year, export of Bangladeshi products to India has been increased.

The Indian high commissioner said at first a tourist delegation of India would visit the Sundarbans in Bangladesh by river cruise.

She said her country would solve the existing problems in border haats.

Commerce Secretary Mofizul Islam and additional secretary M Shafikul Islam were also present.
