Bangladesh will provide Tk 10 million to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) as a grant considering the current acute food and other crises in Afghanistan.

With the approval and direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken the necessary steps to transfer the money to the UN OCHA fund, reports UNB.

The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York, on behalf of the government of Bangladesh, will send the grant to a special fund set up by the UN OCHA for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.

Relevant works in this regard are currently underway, said the MoFA, adding that the money will be spent through the UN OCHA for the vulnerable people of Afghanistan.

“The grant is a true reflection of the prime minister's policy of regional brotherhood, integrated development of South Asia and cooperation towards all,” the MoFA said.

“The image of Bangladesh abroad is expected to be brighter following the grant provided by the government of Bangladesh,” it said.
